User Groups meet SAP’s New Regional President

On January 23rd, SBN together with users groups from France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden and UK made a trip to Paris to meet Brian Duffy, SAP’s new EMEA North Regional President. SUGEN’s President, based in Paris and currently VP of the French SAP User Group arranged the initiative.

Brian Duffy as EMEA North Regional President reports directly to Adaire Fox-Martin, Member of the Executive Board, SAP SE, Global Customer Operations. Brian is based in London where he is leading SAP growth efforts in Great Britain, Ireland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and the Baltic countries.

In his opening presentation, Brian Duffy told us that he was appointed to his new role because SAP top leadership believe that he can create change in the organisation. Going forward the emphasis will be on customer satisfaction, the type of satisfaction that lasts for the whole term of a customer’s lifecycle with SAP. He talked about trust and long term relationships and asked for support from the User Groups and customers to identify pain points so SAP could address and rectify them. The discussion was open and positive and he stated that he was very much aware of the complaints from our member customers that SAP tend to be overly, focused on sales.

Brian Duffy clearly expressed his appreciation of the value of the work user groups do for SAP's customers. In fact, he is inviting the User Groups of his region to a close and long-term partnership, which immediately led to an invite to a follow up meeting where he would like feedback on change we have started to experience in our local markets. He repeated throughout the day that the customer is SAP's biggest asset and the importance for SAP that the customer is satisfied through the entire journey with SAP.

The meeting had several discussion topics that had been requested by the User Groups. The main topic was the Ease of Doing Business with SAP.  Here, the discussions were long but conducted in a positive spirit where representatives from SAP noted down ideas for changes and improvements. Areas of particular interest for Norway were the lack of knowledge about new products in our country/region. This included all stages from early knowledge of SAP's product strategies to enable customers to make the right choices for an internal Road Map. In addition, to get relevant price information, support in implementing solutions and support in the maintenance period. We used our recent member survey results as input for the discussion.

Indirect Access was discussed but this topic has been on the table for a period of time and many initiatives in cooperation with the Global User groups have already been taken, so the discussion was relatively short. In response to a direct question from the Netherland’s representative, Brian Duffy told us that a customer, widely discussed in the press for non-compliance due to Indirect Access, is now a satisfied customer who will continue their journey with SAP.

S/4HANA adoption was discussed as part of the Ease of Doing Business discussion as we see in our survey that many people still ask for guidance on the journey to S/4HANA. The topic on the adoption of Leonardo was moved to our guided tour of the Paris Experience Center. Here we saw many "Use Cases” of how new technologies in Leonardo can be used. Some of these are captured in the accompanying pictures, please see the captions on the right.
